Laundry Tub - Half Way There!!!

With a great thanks to my Dad, Joe, and my brother's engine hoist the laundry tub is finally in place!
My dad built me a nice sturdy platform with legs out of wood last month, but moving the heavy cement tub posed a challenge. Its good to know "car guys" who have an engine hoist I can borrow :)

Trust Them; They Are Both Engineers!!!

Next steps:
  1. remove rust form outer metal edge/clear coat
  2. enamel the inside of the tub (white)
  3. sand and paint outer tub (red?)
  4. stain wood of stand (aqua/turquoise?)
  5. run the water lines
  6. plumb the tub

Darn Polar Vortex

AGGGGHHHH - Frozen Pipe!!!!

No water is flowing from the hot water faucet in the powder room. The powder room being built on an old porch is not insulated well, but there have been precautionary measures to keep pipes from freezing such as insulation, electrical element wraps...but for some reason all winterizing efforts have failed.

Upon further investigation - ie taking apart a housing box that was built to keep the the plumbing cozy, the electrical element had fallen away from the hot water pipe. RAWR!

Pulling out pink fiberglass insulation is not my favorite thing to do, trying to get tape to stick to a frozen pipe in sub zero temperatures is also not my favorite thing to do. Re wrapped pipe, packed in the insulation...and now its time to wait for the water to flow.

I also placed a space heater in the powder room.

Merry New Year!

And then this happened...
But, because I'm me, I have a box of old door knobs and I've been wanting to swap the brass for black porcelain knobs since I moved in.
Vi-ola! The black ones would not work with the backer plate, white porcelain will do.
Throw something else at me New Year!

Has The Water Stopped?

I think we have found the winner, or should I say loser! The cold water supply pipe to the toilet is leaking. A simple fix, right...WRONG - the pipes are encased in a cement tomb under the bathroom floor.

Turning off the feed to the upstairs toilet has stopped the water from dripping/flowing, but there have been years of damage done and I fear we may be loosing the original bathroom tile floor. :(
